Kwikset®/Weiser Lock®: SmartScan/Biolock Deadbolt

Go To AKME LOCK

Kwikset®/Weiser Lock®., leader in the residential security industry, unveils SmartScan/Biolock fingerprint deadbolt, a biometric keyless entry system for the home. Building on the success of the Powerbolt®, a keyless entry system, Kwikset/Weiser Fingerprint door lock  now takes access control to a new level with the launch of SmartScan/Biolock. The revolutionary SmartScan/Biolock technology completely eliminates the need for a key or key code, utilizing only a fingerprint scan. Biometrics is the method of authenticating the identity of a person based on physiological characteristics. The most well-known method is fingerprint identification. Kwikset’s SmartScan is a biometrically accessible deadbolt door lock system that can be applied to internal and external doors in residential or commercial applications.

The SmartScan/Biolock deadbolt is activated simply by swiping a valid fingerprint across its sensor. SmartScan/Biolock reads sub dermal fingerprint patterns located beneath the outer surface layer of the skin, making it unaffected by dirty or worn fingertips. Programmable with up to 50+ user fingerprints, SmartScan/Biolock also has a special timed “lock out feature” that allows homeowners three levels of access options. This feature allows continual access (24/7) for family members, temporary access for house sitters or contractors, and time restricted access for babysitters or housekeepers.

SmartScan technology is based on its proven Powerbolt mechanical platform. It can be easily installed on most standard doors and requires no hard wiring. The durable, low power consumption system operates on a battery with a life of one year (based on 20 accesses per day).

SmartScan/Biolock is specifically designed as a stylish alternative to the bulky, undistinguished industrial biometric security systems currently available. It delivers a sleek, attractive designer look and feel, with its biometric fingerprint reader stealthily integrated into the overall design. SmartScan/Biolock is available in a variety of finishes that enhances any décor in any home. The finishes carry a lifetime warranty. SmartScan/Biolock…it puts security and convenience right at your fingertips.

"A year ago I had to break my window to get into the house, now that's not a worry. This thing is really practical. I received it as a gift and am amazed. It was really easy to install/setup and recognizes my whole family. You can lock it by touching it a few times and don't even have to be registered. Slick.
When you have groceries and digging for the key is another place this works wonders."

It is a piece of crap. First I had to have the deadbolt hole in my door enlarged to fit it. Now that it is installed it will hardly recognize my finger. It takes about 6 or 7 swipes before it will let me in the door and that is set at the normal level of security. I would hate to see it on the high level. It is so sensitive to how fast you swipe your finger and what angle you swipe it at that a little kid would never get in! I am going to return it and buy a keypad because I know they work!

It may be a piece of crap for few of user. This is why manufacturer name it as "SmartScan". It is high tech product and good for someone who like to learn and use new products. Anybody won't have any problem to use this lock if you watch manufacturer demo video and read manual carefully. The manufacturer Back and Decker is biggest lock and hardware company in the world. Is it possible that they make a piece of junk? Think about that!! The home depot sell this lock online and store. Is home depot stupid if the product is a piece of junk? Anybody can ride tricycle without any training. Nobody can ride bicycle before they learn and practice. Will you blame that the bicycle is a piece of crap if you can't ride it? Using mechanic and keypad lock is same to riding tricycle. You don't need to learn and practice. Using SmartScan/Biolock is same to riding bicycle. You have to watch demo video and read manual to understand how it works. Trust me that it is much easy than learning how to ride bicycle. It is great product after you used it. You will enjoy the high tech product.

        Hi,

I purchased this lock and I am an Electrician and a technician working in a highly technical field. I am very computer savy and work with cutting edge electronics everyday. This lock is a piece of CRAP! I scanned my own finger about 20 times to have 20 samples to check against. Even when I swipe as careful as I can it still takes 20-30 tries to work. When I first set it up it worked almost first try every time so something is up with it. Unless this is a defective unit I can vouch that this lock is very far from perfect. I really wanted this lock to work as it was much smaller on the outside than my previous powerbolt. I am going to have to go back to the old powerbolt as there is no way that my 6 year old could ever do this! Don't purchase this product until they have gotten the bugs out!

What I want to know is just how tough this lock is. I have not seen any reports to this. by the shape, it looks to me possible to break it open by using a huge bottle opener-like device. also, how about shocking it with an electrical device, like a modified tazer. An intruder can destroy it enough to prevent rightful access if these areas are not considered. lastly, what happens when the unit just fails. the door is unlocked? the logic could tell the system to open, or the power output device could short out, activate motor and so on.
